3 Tips to help get you through a lockdown

5 June 2021

New Victorian lockdown restrictions were announced on 27th May 2021 and took effect as of midnight that very night. And just like that, we're in another lockdown. This lockdown was meant to end on Thursday 3rd June but got extended for another 7 days throughout Greater Melbourne until 11:59pm on Thursday 10 June.

I'm not here to tell you how much this sucks because it really does. Instead, I want to share 3 tips that might help get you and those you love and care about get through this challenging period.

1. Check in with friends and family

Take time to check in with friends and family. Just because we're in a lockdown doesn't mean that interactions with friends and loved ones needs to stop. You can still call, video call or message friends and family.

I'd suggest picking up the phone and calling (or better yet, video calling) rather that sending a text message or email. Getting to hear and speak to someone else will help reduce feelings of isolation. It also lets you feel more connected to the people you care about.

You're not just doing it for you, but for someone else and you may not know it, but this act could make the biggest difference in someone else's day. We humans are social creatures afterall.

2. Get outdoors and move your body

Make sure you get outdoors in nature and move your body, even if it's just for a short walk around the block or in your local park. Ideally, you'd want to do this during the day so you get some sun.

It's been scientifically proven that being outdoors has a de-stressing effect and that sunlight (moderate exposure) can help lift your mood.

The best part is, anyone can do this. Just make sure you've got the appropriate clothing on as Melbourne winters can be quite chilly.

3. Reflect on "Joy Bringers"

Put aside some time to reflect on the things that have brought joy to your day. These could be anything and don't need to be big events such as that delicious coffee you grab from your local cafe or that your friend that you haven't heard from for a while called to check in on you. Reflecting on these "joy bringers" helps bolster a positive attitude and has been shown to increase happiness in your brain.

The added benefit of this is that it helps you stay present and reminds you that as much as there are shitty situations, there is always light at the end of the rainbow.

4. Bonus Tip - Eat Brownies!

I just had to throw this one in after it was suggested by one of our lovely customers.

I hope these 3 (+1 bonus) tips help to get you through this current lockdown that we're in.

Feel free to share it with friends or family, especially if you think it might help someone who's in a tough situation. This was originally meant for Victorians and those living in the Greater Melbourne area but if you're in a lockdown anywhere else in the world, I hope it helps you too.

If you know someone who's going through a tough time, please contact us privately and we'll arrange for a delivery to go out to them.

We've got this!

From my heart to yours,
